In recent years, I’ve been refining a Yaupon holly with a view to display it in an upcoming exhibition Bay Island Bonsai. It is now one of my best candidates for our next exhibition 15th anniversary.

work at this stage is to leave that new outbreaks run for a while and then cut back to within the desired shape. Progress is subtle, but necessary if I am to create pads branch with good definition.

Of course, pads branch well defined They are still a long way off. Meanwhile, I will keep repeating the crop / cut the routine and see how the tree looks this winter.
