Autumn is a good time to work on white pine. Spring growth has hardened off, and the old needles are starting to color.

As shown in the photo above was in need of a cleaning, which remove old needles and slightly thinner branches in the strongest areas. I also took the opportunity to work on some dead wood. A couple of branches had died long ago, but the crust stayed where he was. To increase the contrast between living and dead branches, I removed the bark of dead branches, exposing the wood underneath yellowish brown. I’ll let newly exposed wood dry for the moment, and the will of lime sulfur these areas in winter.
