Last week I wrote about how to start trees along a road to give either large, medium or small bonsai (see “Connection 3 year-old black “pines). I have a number of black pines that are now turning to nine years old. Based on the curves in the trunk, I now decide whether the trees will do a better big, medium or small size bonsai.
Nine years, I did not think much about the size of the curves I created during wiring – I just knew it was bad straight and curves that were good! To some extent it. When making sharp turns without knowing it determined that these bonsai trees become small. Here is the trunk of a nine-year-old black pine.
9 years of trunk age
Height of the first cut: 7 “; Diameter 1” floor: 12 “
If I had to leave trunk to develop for another five years, trunk swelled to the point where the curves disappear. to keep the curves, I removed a large branch exhaust and changed the focus of the branches developing. it is easier said than done.
9 years pine – Height 25 “
After reducing the trunk, I was with a vertical branch and a side branch. Since I can not do much with two branches, I just took off some needles and will plan decandle in summer, in an effort to stimulate new growth.
After thinning light
I could do exactly the same comments about the tree below. As the curves in the trunk are pressed, letting the tree follow thicken result in a straight trunk. I removed the main branch of escape that left me with two branches. Telegraphed these and some other thin and decandle this pine as well as in summer.

9 years pine – height: 27 “

is curious to learn these basic lessons many years on a project, but better late than never. If it had continued to let these trees grow freely, I would start to wonder where the curves were and I wish I could turn back the clock. After doing like all my little trees with tight bends reductions, I have avoided this fate, while creating a lot of work for me come decandling same time. Details to follow in June.
