I’ve been working in recent years in a Japanese maple my mother collected as a seedling. The last time I worked on the tree, it took me a couple of big branches. Since then, the tree has grown freely to help heal the scars.

Now that some of the new branches of sacrifice are bigger every time, shortening or took them off to prevent them from getting bigger . Large cuts also give the tree the opportunity to produce new shoots inside the tree.
