US Fifth Exhibition National Bonsai is a few months away. The event will be held on September 10 and 11 in Rochester, New York -. William N. Valavanis home, the force responsible for bringing the event to life
As always, there will be protesters around the world, a large vendor area, and an exhibition with 250 bonsai displays.
Two years, I made my first visit to the event. I decided on the place I’d go back for the next as it was one of the most fun events I’ve attended bonsai.
This year will be an exhibitor and a seller. As a salesman, I’ll have a selection of tools, pots and available materials, and I will be bringing a small batch of black pines that have grown over the past 12 years.
As an exhibitor, I will be showing a Korean hornbeam – the same tree that appeared in the Glass Artisans last year in Portland, Oregon. Repotted the tree in a slightly larger pot last winter and allowed to grow freely until partially defoliated in May.
From here to the exhibition, who want to preserve the silhouette of the tree and ensure that the light does inside the tree. If you let the summer growth and not short elongated again until just before exposure, new will shade the interior branches and leaves make it grow weak.
To ensure that the tree looks better in the exhibition, I will shorten the new shoots as they emerge and thin densely populated areas.
This is what the tree looked to 8 weeks after partial defoliation.
carpe Korea (16 “) – July 2016
After a slight adjustment, the tree became more tidy
After smaller cut and thinning
I will continue to fertilize (moderately) and watch the water (carefully) as I normally do, but will also convert tree more often than usual to ensure that the new growth is out of balance.
the last step in preparing the tree display will prepare the top dressing, but will wait until the weather cools a little.
