After an incredible 8 years studying with Shinji Suzuki in Obuse, Japan, Matt Reel has returned to the US as bonsai professional.

I met for the first time in 2009 Matt – 3 years after learning – on a visit to the garden Suzuki (see “Taikan Bonsai Museum”). Since his work was impressive. Now that Matt is back, which is available for a variety of services including bonsai styling, demonstrations, workshops and programs bonsai. At a recent meeting Bay Island Bonsai, Matt provides a critique of members trees.
Finding a new front
Matt carefully reviewed each of the trees in the meeting and shared their views during the program. For a white pine, he suggested a new front. For a small juniper, a new angle planting.
