It was almost a year ago that was preparing to visit Japan for what turned out to be my best holiday to date – an adventure of bonsai that lasted almost two months. I shot many more photos on this trip than it was able to share last year, so now I’m going back to task for the coming weeks in an effort to portray some of the highlights of bonsai central Japan.

Within days of arriving, with Boon Manakitivipart to Shimpukuji temple, my house during the first week of the trip, Akio Kondo picked us up for a tour of some bonsai nurseries. One of our first stops was the nursery of Mr. Ishii. Ishii is a prominent professional bonsai in central Japan – I saw it in almost all exhibitions and auctions attended during my stay and he would always buy and sell. His collection includes a fun variety of trees and a large selection of black pines. smaller
