Bonsai trees for indoor and guidelines of their specific care

Indoor bonsai tree care ; Bonsai trees for indoor and guidelines of their specific care –  A common misconception about Bonsai trees is that they must be kept indoors. In fact, most of the bonsai trees should be placed on the outside where they are exposed to the four seasons as well as normal trees are. Only tropical and subtropical plants can survive in the climate of the interior of your home, where temperatures are high and stable throughout the year.

Indoor Bonsai

Alright, so I need a Tropical Bonsai tree. Which one?
There are several trees that you can grow indoors, but by far the most common (and easier to care for) is the Ficus bonsai. The Ficus is tolerant of low humidity and can withstand enough: a good choice for beginners.

Other popular bonsai trees for indoor environments include Crassula (jade-plant), the Ligustrum (Privet), Carmona (Fukien Tea), the Schefflera arboricola (umbrella Hawaiian), the Jabuticabeira bonsai (Myrciaria cauliflora) and Sageretia (Sweet Plum).

Why cannot maintain bonsai (non-tropical) temperate trees indoors?
The most important reason as mentioned above, is that the temperate trees require a period of dormancy (winter). During this period, the annual growth cycle ends, and the tree prepares for the next cycle to begin again in early spring. The tree starts to go numb when temperatures and light intensity decreases gradually over several weeks, which does not happen when you keep your trees indoors.

Care for a bonsai tree interior is different from those of the houseplants in normal vessels. The main reason is that the bonsai trees are planted in small pots and, therefore, have limited storage of nutrients and water. The most important is that tropical trees are used where there is lots of light and high humidity, conditions that are very difficult to create at home.

Specific care indoor bonsai species:

  1. Light
The main problem with maintaining a bonsai tree tropical interior is that the light intensity indoors is much smaller than the outside. The trees will not die immediately when the light intensity is very low, but growth will decrease, possibly weakening the plant. So be sure to place your bonsai in a well-lit spot, preferably in front of a window facing south.
Even when you have a window facing south, chances are that the light intensity is still very low. Artificial lighting may help, for example, using fluorescent lighting (with radiation spectrum conducive to growth) or light from LED (Light-Emitting Diode) for about 10 hours per day.
  2. Humidity
Another problem with maintaining a tree of tropical bonsai indoors is that the tree needs a much higher than the internal conditions of your home (especially when you use heating or air conditioning) relatively high humidity. You can increase the moisture close to your bonsai tree by placing it in a tray full of water humidifier and misting in making your tree a few times per day. What is also helping circulate the air from outside, opening a window during the day?
  3. Watering and fertilization
the most important rule is: never pour into a routine. Ignore the label attached to your bonsai that claims you need to water every ‘x’ days. Instead, monitor their tree and only when needed shower. Please read pages about watering and fertilizing for more detailed information.
  4. Temperature
Species of tropical trees need relatively high temperatures throughout the year, similar to the pattern of your living room temperature.
Subtropical bonsai trees can withstand somewhat lower temperatures and generally are successful when enjoying a winter season temperatures well below standard room temperature.
