30th annual fair Redwood Empire Bonsai Society

I have often heard, and is likely to be repeated, that the most important part of a bonsai is the trunk. An impressive trunk shows the character and age. Establishes movement and sets the basis for any style of the tree is. I would be hard to identify good bonsai with mediocre logs.

I found me appreciate the trunks of a number of trees on display at the annual fair to 30 Redwood Empire Bonsai Society last week. REBS is well known for hosting the largest in Northern California exposure, if not throughout the western United States (anyone know of a bigger display?). Such size allows REBS trees of many different sizes and varieties display.

As you browse photos trunks down, see if you can guess the variety, size and style of bonsai to which they belong. Some varieties are easy to guess, others less so. The size and style of the tree can be more complicated. Can you guess them all? Surprises? Click on the images to see the rest of the tree.
